Background of the Study
Sustainable farming practices are essential for ensuring food security, preserving natural resources, and promoting economic stability. In Soba Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State, communication plays a critical role in encouraging the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Effective communication approaches, such as farmer education programs, extension services, and community-based initiatives, facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building (Ahmed & Musa, 2024; Bello et al., 2025). Participatory communication strategies that engage farmers in decision-making processes have proven particularly effective in fostering the adoption of techniques such as crop rotation, organic farming, and water conservation (Yusuf et al., 2023). This study assesses communication approaches used in promoting sustainable farming in Soba LGA, focusing on their effectiveness, challenges, and impact on agricultural productivity and environmental conservation.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Farmers in Soba LGA face numerous challenges, including soil degradation, climate change, and limited access to modern agricultural practices. While communication approaches have been implemented to address these issues, their effectiveness remains inconsistent due to factors such as cultural barriers, low literacy levels, and inadequate infrastructure (Okonkwo et al., 2024). Moreover, the lack of participatory and locally tailored communication strategies further limits the adoption of sustainable farming practices (Ahmed & Bello, 2025). This study evaluates the effectiveness of communication approaches in promoting sustainable farming, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in Soba LGA.

The study is limited to Soba Local Government Area, Kaduna State, focusing on communication approaches used in promoting sustainable farming practices and their impact on agricultural productivity and environmental conservation.
